A Complete Collection of Rogue's Longest-Running Solo Series
By S. H. Wells
Collecting: Rogue (2004) #1-12
Bonus: 4-page Art Gallery
First off this reviewer feels like he should warn readers. This "complete" collection is not, in fact, complete in the sense that two other Rogue miniseries are not collected here. The first series, Rogue (1995), is collected in Gambit Classic - Volume 2. The second miniseries, Rogue (2001), remains uncollected. What we have here, then, is the complete third Rogue title which is also the longest running Rogue solo series, and this book does collect all twelve issues of this series' run. It is complete in the sense that Rogue (2004) had only been collected as two separate paperbacks previously (see: Astonishing X-Men: Rogue, Vol. 1 - Going Rogue and Rogue: Forget-Me-Not TPB ).
If you judge this book by what is included and not by the series that are omitted from the "complete" collection, then this book stands up as a fun collection for Rogue's fans. This book is divided into two main story arcs: "Going Rogue" and "Forget Me Not". The first arc takes Rogue back to her roots in Mississippi. Rogue (with the role of sidekick played by Gambit) has to deal with some seriously angry spirits and in the process learns about her family. I particularly enjoyed learning some of Rogue's backstory, and I felt that the connection with Rogue's aunt rose to the level of poignancy.
"Forget Me Not" explores a different aspect of Rogue's past: her connection with Mystique and her former affiliation with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The search for answers takes Rogue to Japan where she eventually teams up with Sunfire. Lady Deathstrike and the Silver Samurai impede Rogue's investigation leading to some epic battles--the Lady Deathstrike fights are especially well done.
I decided to review this book with 5 stars because the series included here is really fun, I love it. It is well written with plot twists, good action, and excellent pacing. The artwork is also quite remarkable with plenty of panels that made me linger in order to savor them. My main complaint is that this book is not a "complete" Rogue collection; rather, it a complete collection of the Rogue (2004) maxiseries.

This is a great story. I'm glad it exists because it shed some light on the story of my favourite Marvel character. The art is also pretty impressive.
