From the Author
Before writing Voice in the Wilderness, I developed a detailed plan of what it would take to seize control of the USA. I read books by radicals as well as historical and theoretical books on tyranny. As I wrote my story, several incidents appeared in the headlines only weeks or days after I wrote about them. I didn't want to abandon my plot and, realizing mine was a character-driven story, I continued to write it, though the Associated Press seemed to be stealing part of my thunder.
My conclusion from my research and writing experience -- it's not as hard as one might think to take over this nation, if one has no moral restraint and can lull the citizens into political apathy until--you'll have to read the series to fill in the rest.
To the ladies -- never fear reading a thriller by H. L. Wegley. You will not be grossed out or horrified by graphic violence, sex, or profanity. As an author and person of faith, I write stories like Voice in the Wilderness because I believe every reader who enjoys stories dealing with high stakes and the grittier issues of life, ought to have the option of reading their favorite genre without being, as Oscar Wilde once put it, taken to the latrine and locked in. Fiction, after all, is not reality. A complete replica of reality would be boring. Characters' actions and words need include only what the author chooses to move the story forward.
Hope you love the characters and enjoy the story in Voice in the Wilderness. The sequel, Voice of Freedom, should be released in late May and book 3, Chasing Freedom, in late July 2016.

About the Author
H. L. Wegley served as an Air Force Intelligence Analyst, working closely with NSA, and a Weather Officer supporting the Strategic Air Command. In civilian life, he worked as a research scientist, publishing in the scientific literature, then he developed Boeing computing systems for 20 years before retiring near Seattle. He is a multi-published author with a 4-book inspirational thriller series, 2 nonfiction books, and 4 more novels on the way.

Romancing The Thriller

VOICE IN THE WILDERNESS brings to mind the concept of “Romancing the Thriller.” This is an action-packed romantic suspense story that doesn’t slow down for a moment.
The novel opens with tension. The main character, a freckle-faced, red haired beauty named K.C. Banning receives a text message from inside the White House that she’s being set up. She’s a techno-genius who works for the government. There’s one thing for certain, the author knows his technology.
President Abe Hannan has been causing manufactured crisis after crisis. He even has an elaborate plan to declare martial law and place himself at the head of a centralized government. This would make American no longer a free and democratic nation. His minions announce to the media that K.C. has murdered the head of the Senate Intelligence Committee and a nation-wide manhunt for her begins. As K.C. sets off across the country to get as far away from the beltway as she can, the author’s skill shines in painting a clear picture of the beauty of rural America.
K.C.’s childhood, Christian political-blogger friend Brock Daniels sees her image on a television news program and knows exactly where she will go to hide. He’s been secretly in love with her since they were children and is determined to save her. He’s longed for her for years. With her fashion model beauty, coupled with the fact that her deceased senator father put him down in no uncertain terms, he’s always felt he wasn’t good enough for her. As these two are hunted by a corrupted FBI, special ops teams, and swat teams, I wondered how they would ever escape. Brock draws upon his deep faith and this sustains him. K.C. struggles with God, but as things get darker she begins to rely upon Him. Her fledgling faith is presented in a natural way. The author shapes a story sending both characters into what looks like will be their doom, but somehow there is hope. There is also a wonderful use of humor which lightened some of the more terrorizing moments. The novel ends with a bit of a cliff-hanger, which points to the next book in the series.

Powerful and Compelling

What a powerful and compelling book! And to think it is "only" a fictitious portrait of modern America and things that may actually come to pass unless "We the people" do something to prevent them from happening. Multiple kudos to Mr. Wegley for having the courage to use his talents to "tell it like it is." May this book become so widely read and have such a profound effect that he will be labeled a terrorist! (That will make sense when you read the book.)
Mr. Wegley is a talented writer, and he keeps the story moving right along while allowing us to cheer for the good guys and boo the villains. A definite page turner...not necessarily recommended for bedtime reading.
I've often felt that (some) men write romance more realistically than (some) women, and this book is a good example of why I feel that way. But let me not spoil your enjoyment by being more specific.
I can hardly wait for the next book in this series to be available. Unlike series written by some other authors, this book ends satisfactorily rather leaving the reader hanging.

Lots of Excitement

The author took present day events and exaggerated them into fearful possibilities where America nears becoming the dystopian U.S.A. As usual, Wegley delivers on excitement. For awhile there, when the two main characters face one crisis after another, I almost lost my breath, thinking there was no way out. The characters are well-developed, seeming to be larger than life, yet they both struggle with self esteem. Their natural talents & knowledge of the setting gets them out of trouble with realistic answers. I believe the author intends this to be a wake-up call to young people in the USA to use their talents and God's wisdom to fight tyranny and evil wherever it shows its ugly head. I love the use of a special childhood relationship that grows into a forever love. I also love a secondary character, a Special Ops military man. This book is worth a read if you like thrillers, politics, or both, or even if you like a little romance. There's something for everyone.
